Bright Places

Bright Places Statement

As with earlier series, the big, impressionistic and highly expressive canvasses describe the landscape as we now often view it – from the seat of a moving vehicle.

Symptomatic of our times, the paintings capture moments, visual bites which while fleeting, imbue the viewer with a powerful sensory experience.

One of the finest compliments I have received is to be called “a painter’s painter”.  The phrase acknowledges the importance I place on materials. Though I continue to work with thematic ideas – particularly those concerning our relationship to place, the concept of ‘landscape painting’ and how technology and fast-paced contemporary living impact our view of reality – creating beautiful paintings is always at the core of what I work toward in the studio.

This series of work is more focused on colour and the materiality of oil paint; its nuances and subtleties, viscosity, opacity or transparency and the sheer delight of working with this glorious medium.
