Amanda van Gils

Amanda van Gils is an Australian artist whose work explores perception, memory, and the emotional resonance of place. Her paintings draw from the landscape not merely as subject, but as a site of enquiry – a portal into what lies beneath the surface of experience.

Known for her luminous ‘motion landscapes’ and evocative skies, Amanda’s work invites quiet attention, stillness, and reflection.

Her current series, The Shape of What’s True, deepens this enquiry through a renewed material language. Returning to watercolour and reintroducing text as a visual element, these layered compositions examine how belief shapes identity, and how meaning often resides in what is felt rather than seen. Fragments of partially obscured words echo the subconscious narratives that shape our inner worlds.

Amanda’s work has been exhibited in more than 120 exhibitions, including over 25 solo shows. Her work has been exhibited in Australia, Berlin, and New York, and her paintings are held in both public and private collections, including Monash University, Greenslopes Private Hospital, and Gold Coast University Hospital.

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Monash University and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Victorian College of the Arts.

Beyond her studio, Amanda is the founder of The Artists Business Lounge – a coaching platform supporting artists to build strong, sustainable careers without compromising their creative integrity. Her work in this space has earned multiple awards, acknowledging her innovative approach to artist mentorship and creative entrepreneurship.
